For example, you can tell a debt collector to cease communicating with you, but you must do so in writing.

&lt;br&gt;You should also immediately send any collector who contact you a letter demanding validation of the debt, including a copy of the application, and a copy of the statements.  DO NOT let them bully you into sending a fraud affidavit. But, what do you do? It doesn't mean you don't owe, only that they don't think they are likely to collect.  It usually indicates that they have sold the debt to a "junk debt buyer" or "zombie debt buyer".
